Police warning over car crime
THIEVES have struck 24 times on vehicles in Dorset from the start of May.
Laptops, satellite navigation systems, handbags and mobile phones were among the items to be stolen.
The police are warning that it is now no longer safe to keep valuables under seats, in glove boxes and boots.
They have urged drivers to "remove it or lose it" as leaving items in vehicles could result in them being stolen.
Crime Reduction Officer PC Sean Cannon said: "Since the start of May the division has suffered 24 incidents of theft from motor vehicles.
"Possessions targeted have included the usual items such as bags, cash, phones, audio equipment, laptop computers, clothing and tools.
"Five of them have involved satellite navigation equipment."
PC Cannon said that messages about car crime were getting through as there had been healthy reductions' but more people needed to take notice.
He added: "Out of view in the glove compartment, under a seat, or in the boot, is no longer enough.
"Don't just think about what you could lose, think about the damage, cost and associated disruption to your daily life."
