POLICE sealed off a house in Dorchester town centre after a man was injured in a fight that spilled on to the street.

Officers were called to Bailey's Court in High East Street after a report of several people being involved in a brawl.

A 37-year-old man was hurt and taken to Dorset County Hospital for treatment. A 26-year-old man, arrested in connection with the incident, was also taken to hospital.

A Dorset Police spokesman said the cordon stayed in place for several hours while the crime scene was investigated.

It was later revealed the victim's injuries were not life-threatening.

Team leader of Dorchester's Safer Neighbourhood Team PC Kevin House said: "It was potentially quite a serious assault involving two males."

He is appealing for witnessess to call police on 01305 222222.

An ambulance spokesman said the victim is believed to be from the Dorchester area.
