Three choir groups based in Weymouth are looking for new members to join this January.

Juliet Harwood, musical director of The Quangle Wangle Choir, The Live Wire Choir and Wacapella, invites singers of all ages and abilities to try out these different classes.

Each choir class runs on alternate days. The Quangle Wangle Choir gathers every Saturday from January 13 between 10am and 12pm at Radipole School for acapella workshops, singing diverse songs in a four-part harmony.

It started in 1994, when Juliet would invite her friends over once a week for a coffee to sing a few songs, accompanied by their babies and small children.

Dorset Echo:

Throughout the past three decades, the choir has grown to welcome over 30 members and has travelled to Brittany, Normandy, and Germany, created projects with schools, given lots of concerts and sung for weddings and funerals.

For those who can’t make Saturdays, there is also Wacapella on Friday mornings or The Live Wire Choir on Monday evenings.

The former is a smaller, women-only choir singing unaccompanied harmonies with classes starting back on January 12 and then Fridays from 11am to 12pm at Weymouth Drama Club in Hope Street.

The Live Wire Choir is Ms Harwood’s newest choir which started a year before lockdown. Classes are on Monday evenings 7:30 to 9pm at St Ann's School Room, opposite St Ann's church on Radipole Lane. Classes will resume from January 8.

All three choirs have a similar repertoire including folk, pop, and blues.

Ms Harwood hopes to see more members in the New Year and highlights the lively and inclusive nature of each choir.

“Anyone who can sing along with a good tune can get the hang of harmony singing if they are prepared to put in a bit of effort. Listening to each other is the thing.

“That combination of expressing oneself while at the same time listening to everyone else is one of the things that gives you such a buzz. And of course, it's also a good work-out for the breathing. Bottom line is - it just makes you feel good.
