A talk on Dorset settlers in America four centuries ago is being held in Dorchester.

The Dorchester Association for Research into Local History and Archaeology is holding their next meeting on Thursday, January 25 at the Dorford Centre.

David Cuckson will be speaking on "The Dorchester Company", who set up an early settlement in America, 400 years ago.

The company was made up of English merchants, who sailed from Weymouth to fish off the banks of Newfoundland.

In 1622 they decided that settling on the coast of New England would be to their advantage.

The Dorchester Association for Research into Local History and Archaeology was set up in 1982 with the help of the Dorset Natural History and Archaeological society.

It is an independent charitable, not for profit organisation and its main priority is to promote public interest in local history and archelogy of Dorchester and the surrounding area.

The meeting starts at 7.30pm and everyone is welcome.

Members are free and there is a suggested donation of £3 for non-members.
