BMW crashes through two front gardens before driver flees

Emergency services were called to a black BMW 1-Series in Ringwood Road, Poole, close to Longfleet Road that had crashed into two front gardens. 

The BMW crashed into Patrick Green’s front garden first, smashing through his wall before coming to a rest in his neighbour’s front garden. 

But it also caused significant damage to his neighbour’s silver Ford Galaxy and shifted ‘three tonnes of soil’ into his neighbour’s garden. 

He said the crash and subsequent damage it caused and clear-up has caused him and his wife “unbelievable stress”. 

On the crash, Mr Green said: “All we heard was a loud bang while we were in bed. My wife said to me look outside and there were police there and people running around. 

“He wiped out two concrete post, my raised flower bed and two fence posts. Our car is damaged as well and there is debris everywhere that we have to clear up. 

“But we’ve had a quote to repair work on our car for £6,000, but it’s not too bad because it’s a lease and police told me [the BMW driver] is insured so it will be dealt with through his company.” 

He added: “The car was recovered by about 2.30am but there’s now the tidy up we have to do. My flower bed had three tonnes of soil in it and it’s now all in my next-door neighbour’s garden.” 

Police sent up a helicopter to search for the man after the crash, which happened just before midnight Saturday, May 4.

Dorset Police’s spokesman said: “It is reported that a car collided with a wall and the driver left the scene. 

“Officers attended with the fire service and the road was temporarily closed. Officers carried out a thorough search of the area assisted by the NPAS helicopter, but the man could not be located.” 

He added enquiries into the crash are ongoing and nobody has been arrested yet. 

A spokeswoman for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Two fire engines from Poole were mobilised to the incident and on arrival found one car had left the road and hit a parked car and property.  

“No persons were trapped and crews worked on making the scene safe. Gas monitoring equipment was used to assess if there was a gas leak and the gas board was also called to check for leaks.”
